A concussion causes severe damage to the brain that can likely have long lasting effects and is therefore referred to as a traumatic brain injury.
A concussion results from a direct blow to the head, neck, or face. Regardless of whether the victim loses consciousness, there can be severe symptoms. In fact, only 5 to 10 percent of concussions cause the victim to lose consciousness.
