Video games were first invented in the mid 1950s, but it took quite a few years before they were available for purchase by consumers. The first video game, Pong, was manufactured by Atari. It became a huge hit in the 1970s, even though it was just a simple tennis-style game that bounced a single ball back and forth between two paddles.
